Peculiar pianism of Ida Gamulin has been attracting the attention of the Croatian and world music scene for 30 years. Later recitals in the concert halls of Stockholm, Oslo and Brussels and Helsinki, tell of her artistic journey begun in London with winning the prestigious Myra Hess Award and making her debut at Queen Elizabeth Hall.
After graduating from the Academy of Music in Zagreb in the class of Prof. Jurica Muray, he won the Svetislav Stancic Award at the Yugoslav Competition of Jazz Artists and went to London where he trained with the renowned pianists Alfred Brendel, John Lill, Stephen Kovacevich and Annie Fischer.
In 1983 he began his international career winning the prestigious Myra Hess Award in London where he made his debut at Queen Elizabeth Hall and recorded his first LP for the company EMI-mava. The beginnings of her foreign career were followed by excellent reviews, so Noel Goodwin writes in “The Times”:”... in a stylistically diverse and demanding program, Ida Gamulin presents herself as an exceptional pianist with a strong expression... from poetic contemplation to the powerful bravura of granite solid octaves..., in a manner reminiscent of Annie Fischer.“, while David Money in the “Daily Telegraph” points out:”The supreme interpreter of Bach..., master of legacies and rich sonority.., realized the power and poetry of Beethoven's sonata.., magical performance.”
Among the numerous awards, in addition to the Myra Hess Award, the Special Prize of the Festival in Freiburg and the Milka Trnin Award stand out. The recording of Brahms's Sonata in Fis Minor was named the best performance in the American Classical Music Directory in 2005.
Ida Gamulin's international career takes her to many cultural centers in Europe, the United States and Asia, where she performs at festivals in Spolette, Varna, Freiburg, Stratford, Janaček Festival and collaborates with renowned orchestras and conductors.
Ida Gamulin records for BBC, France Musique, CBS, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Emi-mava and Croatia Records. So far, she has released 14 sound carriers, and recently 7 CD-Box was promoted on the occasion of 30 years of cooperation with Croatia Records.
Many Croatian composers, such as Boris Papandopulo, Milko Kelemen, Anđelko Klobučar, Igor Kuljerić, Ivo Josipović and Berislav Šipuš, dedicated their compositions to her, which she premiered and permanently recorded on sound carriers. She pays special attention to the music of Dora Pejačević, and has prepared a complete opus of piano miniatures for the press, held numerous concerts with her works and immortalized the most famous miniatures and cycles on sound carriers. Along with her concert career, Ida Gamulin is a full professor at the Academy of Music of the University of Zagreb. She holds seminars in interpretation at renowned European academies, is a member of the judging panels of international piano competitions and president of the Croatian EPTA since 2006.
