The summer cycle of the 10th anniversary edition of the ARDEA International Classical Music Masterclass began on 4 August with a concert that brought together the sounds of flute and piano and music by three great composers representing different stylistic periods.
Flutist Marko Zupan and pianist Marijan Đuzel, distinguished concert artists and professors of this year’s ARDEA Masterclass, performed at the Church of St. Francis of Assisi in Čapljina.
Marko Zupan, professor at the Arts Academy of the University of Split, appeared before the Čapljina audience both as a soloist and in chamber music with Marijan Đuzel, professor at the Academy of Music of Juraj Dobrila University of Pula.
The concert programme offered the audience a journey through different periods of classical music. The evening began with Johann Sebastian Bach’s Partita for Solo Flute in A minor, BWV 1013, performed by Marko Zupan.
The programme continued with Marijan Đuzel’s performance of Joseph Haydn’s Piano Sonata No. 33 in C minor, Hob. XVI:20, while the final part of the evening brought the two musicians together for Sergei Prokofiev’s Sonata for Flute and Piano in D major, Op. 94.
The carefully selected repertoire highlighted the expressive possibilities of both instruments, moving from the precision of the Baroque and the clarity of Classicism to the distinctive musical language of the 20th century.
The concert marked the beginning of a series of summer events within the anniversary edition of the ARDEA Masterclass, bringing renowned professors and a new generation of young musicians together in Čapljina through masterclasses, recitals and student concerts.
In its tenth edition, ARDEA continues to pursue the idea that has shaped the masterclass since its beginnings – connecting artistic excellence, education and performance experience while creating an environment in which young musicians can learn and develop their individual artistic expression alongside distinguished performers and teachers.
